The University of Kansas School of Fine Arts
I am the Director of Multimedia and Technology for the Departments of Art and Design at The University of Kansas. In this capacity, I am responsible for the computing and web presence of the departments. In short, I click and clack on a keyboard (alot). Instead of the work of the departments reaching thousands locally, regionally or nationally, my work brings their work (and that of the students) to the globe. If only we had that many page views!
Since arriving in August 2007, I've implemented blogging software to aide recruiting for the Department of Design and used the same technology to implement content management systems for the computing/printing needs of students and the photographic services offered through the Art and Design building.
The Department of Art at a glance
“The Department of Art is divided into the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, performance, mixed media and installation. The faculty is diverse and committed to professional studio activity. The Department of Art has received several international residency grants and continues to organize ambitious visiting artist programs.
Special Topic courses in studio art, which reflect a particular focus or interest of the faculty member teaching the class, are offered in addition to the regular curriculum. Courses such as Print-Assisted Imagery, Computer Art, Head and Hands, Painting Process as Ritual, and Iron Casting give students an in-depth investigation into a special point of view. ”
The Department of Design at a glance
“Exceptional faculty and state-of-the-art facilities provide an environment that cultivates an optimal educational experience in each area of study. Our curricula speak to a myriad of options for designers and artists, including new offerings in both undergraduate and graduate areas that are the first of their kind in the region. Our students gain insights from world-renowned lecturers, collaborate with industry partners and art venues for real-world experiences, and have opportunities with other institutions around the world that provide enhanced global awareness.”
According to Design Chair Greg Thomas,
“The University of Kansas Department of Design encompasses rich traditions of the past and embraces emerging paradigms that are defining design of the future.”
